the grass is always greener on the other side

“The grass is always greener on the other side”. That’s what people always say when someone felt sad, upset and disappointed.

Mostly, this happens when someone felt themselves to be unlucky in certain things such as they have been broken up in a relationship, disappointed when they didn’t achieve in something they loved doing and someone who they lost or passed away whom they could not forget.

The quote usually came up whenever we feel this way as this quote is related to feelings of someone. Actually, this quote is a positive quote to say whenever we feel down in any sad or disappointing situations. It means that we need to refer and think through the positive way instead of thinking the sadness we are having. As you can think, whenever we feel depressing, we could not just continue with feeling depressed, we need to refer on the happy side which makes you feel more excited and amazing in yourself.

I’m saying this based on the experience I had when my grandmother had passed away two years ago. Until now, I still remember her and could not forget every of the enjoyable and special moments we had together as a family. When she passed away, I was surprised and cried for whole two days until she got buried. I was told by my mother to always be cheerful as she wouldn’t want to see us family crying and sad. So, the quote “the grass is always greener on the other side” does relate to me.

experiencing acknowlegdement

For this topic given of ‘’own early reading history’’, I have chosen the title of ‘experiencing acknowledgement’. Based on the title, I have written several books I enjoyed reading since I was my young age. I was exposed with books since I was six years old as I studied abroad at the age of five which was in Scotland. I have loved learning English from that time till now.

For the first time, I was exposed with encyclopedia in English. It was on exciting and interesting book I’d ever read. It was important to me because it taught me the world stories as history. From there, I got to know the ancient treasure from Egypt, the first creator of football which was china and the learning style such as early and modern learning style. Also, I got to learn a few of the language across the world as in Spanish for ‘how are you?’ is ‘como es’ tas?’ and ‘I love Paris’ is ‘J’taime Paris’. Other than that, I had gained the knowledge from this book. I got to know facts and figures of the population, the language spoken by groups of people, the origin of foods, how to make a house from trees and leaves, and many more. This book had interest me a lot since it provides me varieties of acknowledgement when learning since young.

The second book which was important to me was the dictionary. I read both Malays and English dictionaries and they were both interesting. From those books, I have gained the knowledge of words as they contained so many words that I didn’t even know myself. I got to know and learn more vocabularies which comes a handy to me for the future as well as knowing the definitions of each words that I don’t know so I can be notified when learning in future. Also, I got to learn to new-formed words such as ‘mobile phones – telefon bimbit’, ‘encyclopedia – ensiklopedia’ and ‘information – informasi’ as these few words I didn’t really know when I was a child.

The third important book would be the English story books. I had chosen this because I got to learn grammar throughout the stories such as the word-order, Subject Verb Agreement and Subject Verb Object, Past tenses, Present tenses and punctuations. This helps me by improving my English proficiency so from here, I will know which stage I’m in for the English competency level. Also, I got to learn to be a better reader. By reading these books, I can improve pronunciations of certain words that I hadn’t recognized before. As well as, I gained the expertise of having to make up my own stories as at this stage of youngsters, my mind was focusing on this and I was capable to absorb more information than adults and my brain develops rapidly too, as I got to learn more grammatical morphemes from these story books.

The fourth and last important book I had read was the ‘Reader’s Digest’ magazine. This magazine had helped me a lot by knowing through the education that I was exposed on. From here, I got to learn new things such as the language formed as the grammar which consists of tenses, punctuations and word-formed sentences. Also, I got to learn a few of the literature language such as learning poems, short stories and the literature itself as knowing what is onomatopoeia, metaphors, similes and idioms. From this book too, I got to do the exercises as this was the part of the learning process throughout learning from it. This book has improved me the English proficiency as this has encouraged me a lot in learning and studying the English language for the future.
